Here's the event: November 5– 6, 2011 "This exploration of Spencer Tracy’s early films is selected and presented by his biographer, James Curtis. Curtis, a distinguished film historian, has previously written biographies of James Whale and W. C. Fields, among others. His new 1,000-page study, Spencer Tracy: A Life, was published this fall by Knopf. Curtis has selected five films featuring Tracy, made between 1931 and 1934: Quick Millions, Face in the Sky, Man’s Castle, Bottoms Up, and "Now I’ll Tell" by Mrs. Arnold Rothstein." www.moma.org/visit/calendar/films/1222Can't go, so I hope one of the NYC ladies can take this. 22 bucks ain't half bad. Le sigh.

MARTHA.
Yeah, it's been publicized through Knopf that Curtis is scheduled for a three-city (LA; NYC; San Fran) book tour, so his presence at these MoMA screenings would seem requisite.
I say do it---have always been curious about BOTTOMS UP. Musical? Apparently, Spencer had a kind of fling with his leading lady, Pat Paterson. (And/or every other leading lady... but I digress.)
I should say here that, by now, I've finished the book, and while my feelings are mostly positive -- or am I just relieved? -- I'm not without my quibbles... actually, they're not so much quibbles, as they are complaints. But we can look forward to discussing such matters when all of us have mulled it over for a while. I'm still making sense of things in my head. So.
Goodnight, and good luck.
