This means she has beat people like Frank Sinatra and Elvis (quote me if I'm wrong).. Barbra Streisand has entered the Billboard Top 100 chart at #1 for Love Is The AnswerThis is the fifth consecutive decade of #1's on the Billboard chart with a total of nine #1 records. Congratulations Barbra! Well deserved! Sooo happy about this. This is a huge day for Babs fans. Nothing can rain on my parade today! Even the actual rain in Sydney lol I feel a song coming on... And with that in mind, I'll get off this thread now before I break out into song.. YAY for La Streisand! Let's celebrate with a new banner I made from a screen cap.. Jess

i HAVE been playing the 'jazz quartet' disk 2 versions of "spring can really hang you up the most" and "where do you start?" quite a bit the past week. brava babs. for those of us who have been fans for decades .. through 'good times and bum times" (and odd musical choices on her part .. whole decades i waited through) ... this recording is just darn charming.

It seems among many fans that the second 'quartet' disc is their favourite as with you! She certainly has returned to her roots with this album and it as you say is truly 'charming'.
I'm currently working on a Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers tribute video I will post on YouTube as soon as it's done. I'm using the full orchestral version of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". It's just gorgeous.
Being a soundtrack lover, I noticed as soon as I got the CD that there are two songs from the Sleepless In Seattle Soundtrack. How wierd is that! "In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning" (Carly Simon) and "Make Someone Happy" (Jimmy Durante). I thought that was weird!

of course those tunes long predate 'sleepless in seattle', right jess? and many other artists have recorded them ... in fact, over at the judy garland experience (a yahoo group that focuses primarily on sharing rare audio files) ... a comparison of various artists doing 'make someone happy' is up among this week's file offerings (this kind of comparison is common at that site) . what is definitely true is that barbra is doing a great number of swell standard-ish tunes on this release. yea for her!..

Haha of course Martha hehe.. I just thought it was so funny, an album and movie that I watch frequently had not one but two songs on Barbra's new recording! Wow that Yahoo Group sounds awesome. I love Judy Garland. Our Christmas tree at home is already up (yes, I know haha) and I've been pumpin' in my car Judy's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" all around town with the windows down. It's my favourite Christmas song, possibly even my favourite song of all time. What about the original lyrics haha so funnily explained on the Meet Me In St Louis DVD.. "Have yourself a merry little Christmas, it may be your last. Next year we may all be living in the past" or something hahaa.. 'I can't sing that to little Margaret O'Brien'! She was right, she would have sounded like a monster haha.. best Christmas movie moment EVER.. totally off topic, anywhoo.. It's interesting, in the Sleepless In Seattle DVD commentary, the director explains that she wanted those 'standards' for her soundtrack to make the movie timeless, something we could watch in 10 years (it must be at least that now!) and for the movie to not date. They even talked about clothing in the movie and hairstyles and that they didn't want the film to date. I think watching it now they did a pretty good job. Especially with the great soundtrack choices. Very interesting. It's similar to Nancy Meyers movies, she always has beautiful music and usually includes a few 'standards' like in What Women Want I think there are at least two Frank Sinatra songs! ahh the great romcoms of the 1990s.. okay off topic again Jess.. jess (and any other streisand lover out there with knowledge of internet resources) --- where to i go to search by song and/or by tune ... in a database format .. to answer questions like: what are all the releases/recordings barbra did of x tune .. across television / studio recordings / movies? i haven't found that one searchable source ... i've been spoiled by a similar resource on garland .. the judy garland database .. jgdb.com/. notice for example that if you click through the 'music' options to 'master song list' in this database you get a listing that integrates all known performances ... where/when etc. jgdb.com/songndx.htmwhat got me on this adventure was attempting to figure out the earliest streisand performance of "never will i marry" .. i have a vague memory it was the second album but i wanted to confirm .. then i wanted to see if she performed it live and/or otherwise recorded it in those early years ... EDIT: ah, i've now clarified that 'never will i marry' appears on barbra's third album (funny and cosmic-ly timed as i just framed my vinyl recording of that same record!) ... my question still goes out to the streisand fans .. is there a good searchable database for her recordings and performances, by song?

hmmm Martha. The best database on the internet now is probably bjsmusic.com. There used to be an AWESOME database with EVERYTHING Streisand catagorised but I think the man that ran the website has shut it down. Not sure if he's reopened it, but there was a big to-do and he shut his site down which Streisand fans were known for visiting DAILY. WAY better than ANY OTHER Barbra website on the internet. I'll check that one out and see if it's still shut or open and if it's still running I'll put the link here but otherwise I'll try another webpage. I think it's going to be www.bjsmusic.com but this other one was heaps better. I'll get back to you about this soon. Good question Jess **edit: grammer mistakes lol

Okay, Martha. It's your lucky day! The guy that runs this site, Matt has kept his awesome website open for us to enjoy thank goodness. Here is the link to Barbra heaven: www.barbra-archives.com/If that still doesn't have what you're looking for, I still believe it's the best website on the web for anything Barbra Streisand related. If you need further information or a special question, I honestly think the quickest way of finding out would be to email Matt who runs Barbra Archives and just ask I haven't used his site for quite some time but I believe this will be what you're looking for. I'm not too thrilled with the list of presenters, although Barbra Streisand and Tina Fey will certainly get me to watch the Oscars regardless. Thanks for the info

Not thrilled about the Twilight gang, but Sacha Baron Cohen and Barbra ;D I think Pedro Almodovar is presenting too. Stanley Tucci, James McAvoy and Oprah as well. They're having "friends" of the acting nominees present, so James McAvoy for Helen Mirren (they were in The Last Station together), Oprah for Gabourey Sidibe (she produced Precious), and Tucci for Meryl Streep. And I would bet my life Almodovar is presenting for goddess Penelope Wonder what Barbra is presenting? Or if it's for acting, then to who? But I would watch the Oscars even if it consisted of a reading of the phone book, so...

Haaaaaa.. I always watch no matter, but now that I know Barbra is presenting something it means I'll have to stay up for the whole thing until she's on which I bet isn't until the end.
In 'Barbraland' there's lots of speculation that she will present Best Director. I'm sure it will be one of the big awards like Best Picture, Actor/Actress or Director.
The thing I'm looking forward to seeing is what she'll wear (as well as everyone else). She always seems to wear Donna Karen black numbers and the fans get a bit sick of it, but she's svelt as ever right now so I'm hoping for a bit of colour.
She won't be on the red carpet in true BJS style .
What is with the Twilight gang presenting?? I was thinking the same thing CFK. Meh, I'll be watching like you as always. Thanks for the additional info! Oprah, oy vey. I'm sure she will present something inspirational and maybe even give out free cars! lol is there a TV section at the Oscars?

Twilight can be summed up in one word: ratings. Unfortunately. Oprah is probably one of the presenters for Best Actress (she produced Precious and will presumably speak about Gabourey Sidibe- who was sensational!)
It would be very fitting if Barbra presented Director, since Bigelow will probably win and Barbra was at the centre of the Prince of Tides/Yentl controversies.

Ah I didn't know she produced Precious which looks amazing. I havent seen it yet.
I think you're thinking the same way the Babs fans are with regards to the Directorial stuffs. Hopefully she will present and hopefully Bigelow will win!
